Flow Cytometry Shared Resource
Hours of Operation: Both sites are badge-accessible 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Staff Support: Core Scientists are available Monday to Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, excluding OHSU holidays. Pre-scheduling of Core Scientist time will help us meet your needs. For irreplacable samples, support from 5 PM to 9 PM may be available (please inquire).
Acknowledgement Policy
Acknowledgements of the Flow Cytometry and Monoclonal Antibody Shared Resource in publications is an important factor for instrumentation grants, such as the NIH S10 award used to purchase the BD Symphony S6 cell sorter. Please include the following in publications:
"This work was supported by the OHSU Flow Cytometry and Monoclonal Antibody Shared Resource (RRID:SCR_009974)."
Authorship Policy
If core personnel provide significant intellectual input towards a publication, then it is reasonable and appropriate to include them as co-authors. Since circumstances vary widely, each case should be considered individually, and the core should be consulted for review prior to publishing.
The OHSU Flow Cytometry and Monoclonal Antibody Shared Resource (FCMAbSR) provides advanced flow cytometry instrumentation and related services. The core also provides monoclonal antibody development, screening, expression and purification services. Technical assistance includes consultations, letters of support, instrument training, software training, experimental design and data interpretation. Core services are available to OHSU, the VA, PSU and the surrounding Portland community. The core has operated since 1996.
2024: Abby Buenafe joined as Associate Core Scientist (January). Christina Metea was promoted to Associate Core Scientist (March). The RJH Flow Core relocated due to flooding (February), then moved back (April).
2023: Yong-Ping Zhong joined as Research Associate, and the Monoclonal Antibody Core officially merged with the Flow Core (July). Kyle Taylor resigned (December).
2022: Mike Munks became Director (November). Phil Streeter retired (October). The new Cytek Aurora (Frodo) arrived at KCRB. Kyle Taylor joined as a Core Scientist (August). Christina Metea joined as an Assistant Core Scientist 2 (July). Reshma Purohit joined the Flow Core as an Associate Core Scientist.
PPE Requirements:
Many investigators using the shared resource are studying human cells and/or lentivirally transduced cells. As such, the laboratory is considered a BSL2 laboratory (with some sorts considered BSL2 with added precautions/procedures; or BSL2+); requiring PPE to keep staff and users safe from potentially infectious agents within specimens. PPE requirements for the shared resource follow:
Work Area and Instrument Cleaning
Resource staff will clean at the start of the work day, users will clean both before and after they use the instrumentation. Please allow for an extra 10 minutes to your appointment for cleaning. Methods and materials will be provided at each workstation.
Daily instrument QA/QC will be conducted each morning by resource staff.
